HoCo Did Not Think Main Street Would Flood

Howard County failed to plan for the flood on Main Street. Howard County does not consider Main Street a “frequently flooded road.” According to the County’s 2010 list of Frequently Flooded Roads in Howard County  the roads in Historic Ellicott City are not included. Not Main Street. Not Hamilton. Not Frederick.

Even though the Howard County Flood Mitigation Plan from 2010 predicted structural damage on Main Street, the list does not include Main Street. Even though flooding occurred on Main Street in 2011, the list was not updated. Obviously, the County forgot the flooding on Main Street in 1952, which washed merchandise, furniture and vehicles down the street and onto the bridge.

Will Howard County be updating the list now?
